The 60-plus campers attending the Samuel Hines Basketball Camp at Crabapple First Baptist Church in Milton got a special surprise July 15 when a two-time Olympian talked with them about meeting their goals.
Kim Batten, who competed in the 1996 and 2000 Olympics and won the Silver Medal in the women's 400-meter hurdles in the Atlanta Games, stopped by the camp to impress upon the children the importance of good decision making.

The career highlights for the former Olympian in the 400-meter hurdles are lengthy and include a 1995 World Championship, a 1995 Pan Am Championship, six U.S. Outdoor Championships, a silver medal at the 1996 Olympics, a bronze medal at the 1997 World Championships and a bronze medal in the 1998 World Cup. Batten is the former world-record holder in the 400H and is still the current American record holder (52.61). She is a two-time Olympic qualifier in 1996 and 2000.
Batten currently owns Body By Batten Sports Performance and Fitness.
The 1991 Florida State graduate was previously a financial advisor at AXA Advisors. Before that Batten coached at Florida State from 1991-2000, first as a volunteer assistant coach and then as an assistant coach.
